When we’re driving our golf carts around, we don’t really expect anything bad to happen, we’re not going very fast, it’s in the middle of broad daylight, we’ve only had two or three beers at most, and the list goes on and on. Fact is, you can make similar arguments with just about everything that folks insure these days. Will the worst possible scenario actually happen? Probably not. But let’s take a closer look at why you just might like to consider insuring your golf cart.

Consider this: Over 90% of all golf cart accidents occur when absolutely no foul play whatsoever was involved. No alcohol. No kids stealing the cart for a joy ride. No races around the clubhouse in the midst of foot traffic and other obstacles. The vast majority of accidents happen out on the golf course, when there doesn’t seem to be any cause for concern. Many accidents take place due to unexpected health conditions such as heat stroke or heart attack. The other most common cause is just careless driving on familiar and unfamiliar terrain. It doesn’t take much in terms of a delayed reaction of response to cause an accident. Cart paths are far from being the same safe surfaces that streets are for driving cars. There are steep drop offs, water nearby, and other pitfalls that ruin golf carts every year. So, you can bet that one of these hazards exists at your local course.

In the end, you’re the only one that can make up your mind with regards to whether or not to insure a golf cart. Now, for the most part, golf carts are for going from the clubhouse to the first tee, and continuing on for 18 more holes until the round is finished and the cart is returned to the clubhouse. Increasingly, however, as America’s population ages, and more and more retirees move to large golfing communities in places like Phoenix, and Orlando, golf carts are asked to much more than just traverse the course.

That is because an increasing number of people are choosing to purchase their own carts.
